Wedding guest hair and makeup ideas

IMG_5727.jpg

Last Saturday my friends Sally and Eric made it official by getting hitched. Their ceremony was at 1, but drinks didn't start until 6 -- I needed to execute an easy, almost effortless look that would last with minimal touch-ups, because I didn't want to fuss about.

I replicated my makeup featured in a recent review about Bobbi and Katie's Palette, except this time I wore Bobbi Brown's Pot Rouge in Raspberry on my lips (topped with clear lip gloss) instead of Pretty Powerful. Also, I'm super thankful for waterproof mascara, specifically Maybelline's Full 'N Soft Mascara. Lots of happy tears were shed.

As for my hair, I decided to braid it. Melbourne weather has been especially fickle these past few weeks, particularly in the rain department (hello, frizzy city). Would you believe it if I told you my braid actually starts behind my right ear? Check out one of my all-time favourite hair tutorials from AskSash for more information.

Finally, here's a better look at the dress I wore to their wedding. This black and white striped number is from J.Crew and it's on sale, too!

A little bit about the dress.. it zips in the back, is almost entirely made of cotton (talk about comfy) and it can be dressed up or down.

Congratulations Sally and Eric!

Starting over with Sunday Riley

I first noticed a change two weeks ago. My concealer stopped playing nicely. It refused to blend and just sat there, like a bump on a log.

But what changed?

So, I pondered and went through a mental list of my daily skincare regimen.  It was my eye cream. Blame it on the elements or my ageing skin, but my chosen eye cream decided to give up the ghost. My eye area is parched!

What's a girl to do?

Visit Mecca Cosmetica, that's what!

Earlier today I played with all sorts of brands of eye creams, some of which aim to combat dark circles and tired, puffy eyes. But where was the promise of hydration? And that's when I happened upon Sunday Riley's Start Over, a 1 fluid oz sized engine that could.

Sunday Riley, let's start over and do this!

Beauty in a tick: NARS Eye Paint in Snake Eyes

NARS Snake Eyes

NARS Snake Eyes

Gambling really isn't my thing.  I experience way too much anxiety when I play Blackjack and besides, I like seeing my hard earned money at work in my closet and my makeup bag.

Intense colours matched with endless possibilities. Line, shade or enhance your peepers with any one of the ten long-wear shades, ranging from matte to shimmer.

Side note: If you're a lover of MAC's Fluidline, then you'll definitely be a fan of NARS Eye Paints as well.

I clicked my heels and was transported to Oz!

Snake Eyes is comprised of an emerald green shimmer set within a black matte base. It's certainly not your basic black liner. The gel formula is feather light, glides on and dries fast. And if you make a mistake, don't fret. I was able to erase my mistakes with makeup removing water and start again.

Crap (thanks for the pun, Scott), NARS is onto something with his Eye Paints (a huge departure IMHO from his pressed eyeshadows).
